Dimos S. Kaniouras
Surgeon Ophthalmologist
Eye surgeon Kaniouras Dimos was born in 1963. In 1981 he was admitted to the Officers Military School, at the Medical Department, with the 11th best record. He registered at the Medical School of the University of Thessaloniki, from where he graduated in 1988 with the grade “Very Good“, and the rank of army assistant surgeon. From 1988 to 1991, he served at the 401 GSN in Athens, and in several units of the Greek Army’s Healthcare Division.
During 1991-1995 he specialized in ophthalmology at the Ophthalmological Clinic of 424 GSNE, under the direction of Konstantinos Moschos, and the Ophthalmology division at the General Hospital of Thessalonikis “Ayios Dimitrios”, at the department of Vitreo-Retina, under the direction of Athanasios Nikolakopoulos. During his specialty, he took part in numerous procedures, anterior and posterior eye segment. As a principal assistant in Vitreo-Retina, he performs a number of retina fluorescein, angiography photographic and photocoagulation (laser).
From 1995 to 1997, he participated in the Diabetes Clinic of “Ayios Pavlos“ Hospital, acting as an associate ophthalmologist by training alongside colleagues, trainees diabetologists, in the fundus of diabetic patients.
From 1996 to 2007 he performed the tasks Supervisor of the Ophthalmological Clinic at the 424 GSNE hospital in Thessaloniki, with the rank of Chief Medical Officer, as head of the Laser and Retinal Angiography.
From 2001 to 2002 he was a research assistant at the Department of Vitreo-Retina, at the Ophthalmology Clinic of the Thessaloniki General Hospital “Ayios Dimitrios”. In 2005, he trained in the OCT technology (Retinal coherence optical tomography), at the Retina Clinic of the University Ophthalmological Clinic, AHEPA, in Thessaloniki.
In 2007 he retired at his own request.
Since 2007 he is a resident at the Ophthalmological Institute ‘Diathlasis’, acting as head of the Vitreous and Macula department. He specializes in the diagnosis, treatment, and care of patients with retinal diseases, such as macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, vascular and inflammatory disorders.
During the period 2002-2004, he was on the Board of OEVE as General Secretary and as Treasurer in 2006-2008. The period 2012-2014 is the Vice President of the Panhellenic Ophthalmological Society of Northern Greece (OEVE).
He is one of the founding members of the Association of Self-Employed Optometrists Macedonia-Thrace (ENELOFTH). He is a member of the Greek Society IOL and Refractive Surgery, the Greek Vitreo-Retinal Society, and the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery.
He participates with papers, announcements, posters and presentations of cases in numerous Greek, and international conferences since 1991.
He is married, and he lives in Thessaloniki, with his wife, daughter and son. He likes traveling in Greece, reading and cinema.
