SMILE Small-Incision Femtosecond Lenticule Extraction
The latest generation method in refractive surgery with Laser. Now for the first time in Greece available from the Ophthalmological Institute "diathlasis". Refractive surgery with the new SMILE method changes the data in refractive surgery. The innovative SMILE technique in combination with Femtosecond technology, performs high-precision corneal tissue removal, depending on the degrees we want to correct, achieving greater safety and less time for refractive surgery.
With the LASIK method, the correction of the refractive anomaly is not done on the surface but inside the cornea. Initially, a thin surface flap of corneal tissue is created, which is not completely cut off but remains attached to the cornea on one side.
Today, the Femtosecond Laser has entered the quiver of refractive surgeons. The Femtosecond Laser uses pulses of light, which penetrate the surface of the cornea and form small cavities (bubbles) at a predetermined depth and position within the corneal layer.
In the LASIK Xtra technique, the surgeon combines the LASIK technique with the Cross-Linking treatment to avoid postoperative corneal extension, in cases that are marginal to apply the classic LASIK method (high myopia - thin cornea).
The PRK method is very effective in correcting small degrees of myopia, with or without astigmatism, but also to greater degrees if the cornea is relatively thin. A very thin laser beam is applied to the surface of the cornea.
PHAKIC LENS (Visian ICL)
Patients who for some reason are unable to receive Laser treatment to correct their ametropia (myopia> 10D - thin cornea - hyperopia> 5D) may, under certain conditions, undergo a thin lens surgery (such as a contact lens) in front of the crystalline lens of the eye with very good quality of vision postoperatively.
